LG - Life's Good

This is going to be a very quick post as I am super busy at work today. Al arrived safely on Sunday – although they landed 10 minutes earlier than scheduled it took him over an hour to actually get through immigration and customs – but he did eventually and there was a very happy reunion !!!
Had a great day together and talked until the early hours of this morning. It is soooooooo good to have him home again. What is even better is he told me that he is home for 4 weeks – YAY !!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought it was only 3 weeks so I get to spend an extra week with him before he goes back again – hip hip hooray !!!!!
I was talking to a friend of mine who asked me what I new about a the George Foreman grill – I told her I didn’t know anything but I did know that there were of few of you who used George all the time and so I said I would ask some of you to let me know if you use George – are there any drawbacks to using George in terms of cleaning / storing, do you think he was worth the money and is there anything else you would recommend instead or anything else you can tell me ?
Am not sure what was going on with the scales yesterday morning – I jumped on and was down 2.4kg from last Monday’s weight – really rather strange so I got off and back on another twice but it didn’t move. When I went to weigh last night I was down 0.6 (total now lost 20.5kg !!!) and I went “Phew” because I would have hated to try to explain a big loss to Al – he has enough on his plate without having to worry about me and my weight. Al liked the clothes that I bought although did say yesterday that he thought my pants were too big. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I have really been making an effort to get some exercise in the past couple of weekends and during the past week – I don’t know but I am feeling good and that is the main thing.
Have a great week everyone, take care and be good !

Glad Al is back safely and all is well.
Re George. He is my absolute favourite cooking friend. I have both the grill and the small roaster and they are both fantastic. No drawbacks. Easy to clean. I run hot water over them and wipe them with a sponge and sometimes very stubborn spots with a scotchbrite. He does come with a plastic scraper for large blobs. Grill can be used for everything from a toasted sandwich to grilled pork chops. My roaster cooks 1 chicken or 1/2 a leg of lamb or a chicken size beef or pork roast. I put the potatoes in with the roast and they are delish as well. You can see I absolutely love him.
I haven't bought a BBQ chicken since buying my roaster cause the chicken is so delish!
George is a must have!
OMG, sorry about such a long comment!

Hi Linda. I've just sat down and finally caught up on all my blog reading.

I think you an I must have very similar triggers when it comes to comfort eating. I too, am fine when my man is home (although our dinners are bigger), but when he has been away for a while, I sometimes lose the plot. 'Secret eating' is a good way of describing it, although I'm sure noone is as conscious of us as we are!

I had a little chuckle about the comments your daughter made when you said you might go for another 10. Mostly because I freaked out when my mums weight started to approach my newly reached goal weight. Now we recognise that we are both in our healthy weight range, which is the best for both of us.

Yay, glad Al is home!

We got a George for a wedding present - used it once or twice then gave it to my Mum. Hate it. Found that it cooked meat on the outside, but not inside, and as Jodie said - went really dry. Not nice. I woudn't buy one. It's easier to bake things on a slotted tray so that the fat drips underneath.

Hi Linda

David and I bought a George about 18 months ago when our stove broke and we had to wait a week for it to be fixed. We didn't have a bbq at the time and thought it would be better to buy that than get takeaway every night.

We used it a lot when we first got it, it did sausages very well. But once the stove was fixed I mostly used it for browning meat to use in a casserole. We bought a bbq in April this year and I don't think I've used it since. The type of meals I make don't tend to suit it. For eg, we eat steak regularly and I never cooked steak on the George because, like Jodie, I have my steak medium rare and it didn't get hot enough for my liking. I also found that things did stick to it after a while - maybe I didn't follow the instructions closely enough LOL. I probably would buy a small bbq and a cheap sandwich press over a George.

But, on the other hand, my parents have a George and they use it a lot - mostly to cook chicken breasts, or as a sandwich press. So, each to their own.

Like anything, it's worth getting if you'll get a lot of use out of it.

Enjoy your 4 weeks with Al!

Yay for you and your Al! I hope you have a wonderful time together. How awesome that it's longer than you thought!

George - well, he's pretty good. Storing is fine, but I find that if you don't clean it AS SOON as you use it (ie. while it's still hot) it can be hard to clean. Still good though.
